The side-splitting comedy, which was filmed in the heart of Durban, tells the story of the long-standing rivalry between two families The Kandasamys and The Naidoos.

After years of feuding The Kandasamys and The Naidoos join forces to breakup their adult children who have fallen in love, however in the end the families are forced to settle their differences.

The movie, which released in cinemas across the country on March 3, has raked in a whopping R4,049,418 to date.

According to a statement released by producers more than 76,000 people have flocked to cinemas over the past two weeks to watch it.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, director Jayan Moodley said the success of the film at the box office would hopefully open more doors for cast members and the team.

“This success means that we are indeed building an industry in our province, in our country. It also means that the success paves the way for other filmmakers to follow their passion and make it happen,” she said.

Jayan described the response to the movie as a “special and treasured feeling”.

The filmmaker added that it was an overwhelming feeling to watch the film come to life.

“Making a film is like having a baby. You become so attached and involved in every step of the process. And then you eagerly await the birth. And then you want to celebrate once you can breathe again,” she said.

Jayan, who made her director’s debut with the film, said she felt blessed to have been a part of the project, and the support has been astounding. “The support has been so overwhelmingly beautiful but the one feeling that can’t escape us is love, from so many people who have seen the film. That’s just precious.”

Keeping up with the Kandasamys was produced by Helena Spring and Junaid Ahmed, who died in November last year, and was directed by Jayan Moodley.

The cast includes Jailoshini Naidoo, Maeshni Naicker, Mishqah Parthiephal, Madhushan Singh, Rajesh Gopie, Koobeshan Naidoo, Mariam Bassa and Neil Govender.

The flick is currently showing at selected cinemas nationwide.

CAPE TOWN – Rapper Riky Rick has announced he is no longer part of the record label, Mabala Noise.

In a series of tweets, the Sidlukotini rapper said the past couple of weeks had been “hectic”, further saying the speech he made at the Metro FM Awards two weeks back was “a moment of clarity” for him.

“I didn’t think about the consequences or who would get mad. I just wanted to do the right thing. Inspire the kids to not be slaves to them,” he said.

You might see all this material shit and think It makes life easier. It doesnt. Money Its just an illusion to keep us making DUMB decisions.

He further alleged Mabala Noise took back the material things they had given him and had threatened him and his family’s future. “They want us gone,” he said.

He said the record label would try to make his decision a political matter when, in fact, he was just “woke”.

They gonna want you to believe that Im crazy or Im playing politics. NO. IM JUST WOKE.

You Cant Sell Your Soul bro… It doesnt belong to you. It belongs to God.

Riky has reiterated the speech he made at the Metros, urging upcoming musicians to not follow in his footsteps and pave their own way.

After long prayer and conversation with God, I am no longer part of @Mabala_Noise 🙏🏾 Blessings to everyone there. Thank you for the love.👊🏾

Riky Rick’s ranted during his acceptance speech, calling the music that was being played on radio “crap”. He further said he was not happy about his award because there were artists who had no money and submitted their music to radio stations, but were not getting airplay.

His mic was cut off before he could continue with his rant, but later he said to Khanyi Mbau and Somizi: “Stop playing with the people; the people are not stupid.”

He further said he would not continue with what he wanted to say because people did not like to hear the truth.

His speech, however, left many wondering if he was talking about his record label that has been in the news for the wrong reasons. They say he should hold a press conference and “expose” those who did not want him to be heard.

Even Ndlozi questioned Riky Rick’s speech.

“So in short Riky Rick is saying he got the award because Mabala Noise’s money gave to him,” he said on Twitter.

Cape Town – Canadian actor William Shatner is in Cape Town and, by the looks of it, is part of a huge film production.

It seems from Shatner’s first six tweets, the film production is in the Cape Winelands. The first tweet is a picture of a semi-completed mansion, captioned: “Filmed in this half-completed mansion. Construction started then stopped and it’s left unfinished.”

Shatner posted two more pictures – of a pool, and a backyard view of the mansion. The semi-completed mansion has 20 bedrooms and 27 bathrooms.

Has magnificent vistas down to the vineyard below.

“Long day of filming today. 11am to 11pm. I’ll stop back on breaks,” he posted on Saturday.

The two-time Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning actor also visited Cape Point and Table Mountain.
