LAKESIDE: TWO SURVIVED AFTER MOVING TRAIN SMASHES INTO CAR IN CAPE TOWN (PHOTOS)

CAPE TOWN – Two people were injured on Tuesday, when a train crashed into a car on Uxbridge road in Lakeside, Cape Town authorities said.

Richard Bosman of the City of Cape Town, said: “At 13:35 this afternoon, we had an accident between a train and a motor vehicle at the Uxbridge Road level crossing, that is in the Lakseside area. We have two people, a male and a female, that is trapped in the vehicle.”

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics, metro services and fire services arrived on the scene and found the car lying on the tracks next to the train.

“Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered a man and woman lying trapped inside the light motor vehicle. Both patients were found to be in a serious condition. Metro and Fire services had to use specialised equipment to free both patients from the vehicle,” Meiring said.

“Once freed, paramedics treated both patients and provided them with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, Metro Services transported the patients to Victoria Provincial Hospital for further treatment. Fortunately, no-one from the train sustained any injuries.”

He said that the cause of the crash was unknown and would be investigated by authorities who were on the scene.

CAPE TOWN – Reports from Eye Witness News has it that a Johannesburg hunter has been crushed to death by an elephant in Zimbabwe.

Theunis Botha was leading a hunt when they stumbled across a herd of elephants on Friday.

It’s understood that three elephants approached the hunters and Botha opened fire, prompting a fourth elephant to lift him up with her trunk.

According to Netwerk24, another member of the group fired a fatal shot at the elephant, who fell on Botha.

His company website (Game Hounds Safaris) says he perfected leopard and lion hunting safaris with hounds in Africa.

Botha is survived by his wife and five children.

TRAFFIC: FIRE DESTROYS THREE CLASSROOMS IN MANENBERG SCHOOL

The WCED says it’s looking into measures to accommodate learners while investigating the cause of a fire at a Manenberg school.

CAPE TOWN – The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) says it’s looking into measures to accommodate learners while investigating the cause of a fire at a Manenberg school.

Several classrooms were destroyed in the blaze that broke out on Saturday.

No injuries were reported.

Spokesperson for the MEC Jessica Shelver says, “A fire broke out at Silverstream Secondary school in Manenberg on Saturday at around 12pm. The City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services responded to the call. There’s extensive fire damage and three classrooms were destroyed in the fire.”

TAXI DRIVER FLEES AFTER 14 PEOPLE INJURED IN CRASH

Fourteen people were injured‚ one critically‚ when a taxi crashed in Allandale Road‚ Midrand‚ on Wednesday morning.

MIDRAND – Emer-G-Med operations manager Jurgen Kotze said the taxi drove into a flatbed truck‚ after which the driver fled the scene.

“The taxi went into the back of the truck‚ leaving the passenger in the left front seat trapped and in a critical condition. The front seat passenger had to be cut out of the vehicle and was freed after being trapped for over 40 minutes‚” said Kotze.

All 14 passengers were transported to hospital.

The driver of the taxi is still on the run.

BOY, 12, ACCIDENTALLY SHOT DEAD GIRL LIVE ON FACEBOOK

It happened on Tuesday afternoon in Santa Rosa de Calchines, about 40 km from Santa Fe.

A 12-year-old boy has accidentally killed a girl of the same age while filming with a shotgun on Facebook Live in Argentina.

Local reports say the girl was shot in the face by the boy, who was said to be using a shotgun belonging to his father.

There were reportedly two other youngsters there at the time of the tragedy, with one of them filming.

Police are said to be investigating the death of the girl, named locally as Georgina Magali Vega, but treating it as an accident.

The killing is not the first to be streamed live on the social network’s streaming service.

POLICE INVESTIGATING AFTER FIRE KILLS COUPLE IN WELLINGTON

CAPE TOWN – Police have launched an investigation after a married couple died in a fire at their home on a farm in Wellington.

The fire broke out at the Oakdene Farm in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The male victim was the farm manager.

Crime scene investigators were at the scene on Wednesday trying to establish the cause of the fire.

An inquest has been opened for investigation.
