CAPE TOWN – The best youth sailors from all over the country converged on the Milnerton Aquatic Centre (MAC) on Saturday for launch of sailing South Africa’s Team sailing League (TSL).

According to Tabletalk, the race organizers had to turn his microphone up a few decibels as the Milnerton wind loudly tugged at the crisp new sails of the MAC clubhouse.

Peter Hall, vice-president of Sailing SA, wasn’t the only person in the crowd who was excited about the day’s events. Throughout the briefing, more than one of the assembled crews would sneak a peek at the brand-new boat’s chomping at the bits to take one out into the Milnerton Lagoon.

A first thing first though as the race organizers explained the course rules and safety procedures to teams from hosts Western Cape, Kwazulu Natal, Northern region and Eastern Cape.

For Hall, the launch on Saturday was culmination of years of behind-the-scene hard work by Sailing SA.

“After today’s competition, seven boats will be shipped off to each region to continue our mission and host events like todays in their respective provinces. This new TSL has potential to boost the number of sailors in South Africa, to transform the sport and male sailing accessible to all South Africans, “he said.
