TRAFFIC: POLICE PROBES CAPE TOWN WOMAN’S TAXI KIDNAPPING ORDEAL – READ NEW HIJACKING METHOD

CAPE TOWN – Police are investigating the alleged attempted kidnapping of a 20-year-old woman in Cape Town according to Eye Witness News.

The young woman was on her way home from Goodwood to Cape Town on Tuesday evening

She was the only passenger in the taxi with two unidentified men.

According to the Cape Argus, the suspects tied her hands and forced her to call her family to ask them for ransom money.

The men then dropped her off that same night along De Waal Drive after her family reportedly sent them money via EFT.

The police’s Noloyiso Rwexana says: “According to information, she was the only passenger in the taxi. And she was dropped off in Cape Town where she was assisted by a passersby. No one has been arrested at this stage. We encourage commuters to be alert when using public transport.”

Meanwhile Thousands of women have called for better safety in taxis and made their inputs to a draft National SafeTaxis Charter to improve public transport for females. The National SafeTaxis Charter consultation process was started after Call for greater safety for women travelling in taxis
