POST OFFICE LAUNCHES FREE APP TO TRACK PARCELS, LOCATE BRANCHES NATIONWIDE

CAPE TOWN – The SA Post Office has launched a free app for both Android and iPhone platforms which allows customers to keep track of all their parcels at a glance; it also locates the nearest Post Office branches to the user.

Called “South African Post Office”, it is available free of charge on the Google Playstore for Android devices and on iTunes for Apple devices. The app tracks and traces both the South African and international parcels via the allocated tracking numbers.

It immediately reports where the item was dispatched from, where it was scanned en route and the name of the person who collected it. Customers can also simply scan the barcode of the track-and-trace label to track the item.

“This is intrinsic to our new trajectory of modernising our services as a Group, with technology being the critical enabler for customer solutions. More efforts are underway to ensure reliable customer service,” said Mthoko Mncwabe, Chief Information Officer.

Mncwabe explained the app also has a “find a branch” functionality which uses satellite navigation to locate the user, and then provides all Post Office branches within a radius of 10 kilometres within their street address and contact details.  Further, the app shows whether motor vehicle licence renewals can be done at each branch. During the past financial year, more than 3 million motor vehicle licences were renewed at Post Office branches.

“Reliability and convenience are compelling requirements for customers in the 21st century. As SA Post Office, we have adopted the use of technology to enhance our customers’ experience,” elaborated Mncwabe.

He also stated that they recently launched e-Registered mail, which is e-mail with a full audit trail and proof of delivery. “It can be legally used where the law requires paper-based registered mail, but is has great cost and convenience benefits.  We will continue to develop e-commerce products that give our customers convenience and a great experience.”
