CAPE TOWN – Eye Witness News reported this morning that two people are in custody in connection with the murder of a former financial chief of Naspers.
Eric Wiese, aged 80, was found dead at his plush Higgovale home in the Cape Town city bowl last Friday.
Wiese’s wife was out shopping and when she arrived home she found her husband dead.
While Cape Town police have not yet confirmed the arrests, Wiese’s son has provided the information.
Officials reportedly nabbed a man and a woman after Wiese’s cellphone had been traced to Gugulethu.
Former Naspers board member Ton Vosloo spoke to Eyewitness News about the heinous crime.
“It’s so sad. It’s really frightening that this could happen to a peaceful 80-year-old who was pottering with the plants in his garden. To think he was just doing good things in life and to be so sadistically murdered for no purpose.”
Media24 chief Esmar Weidemann says Wiese will be remembered for his contribution to print media operations at Naspers.
“For us younger generation he was a role model, always a gentleman and always very interested in Media24. We’ll all miss him dearly.”
Officials have confirmed Wiese’s home had been ransacked and several valuable household items were stolen.
