CAPE TOWN – Police Minister Fikile Mbalula is expected to visit Hout Bay on Sunday following several days of violent protests in the area.
The body of a 19-year-old man, who’d been fatally shot, was found in Imizamo Yethu on Saturday.
It’s still unclear whether his murder is linked to the violent clashes with police.
The protests flared up earlier this week after the City of Cape Town demolished shacks that were built illegally, to make way for the re-blocking in areas affected by the March fire.
Shops owned by foreigners and the local African National Congress office have also been damaged amid demonstrations.
Mbalula’s spokesperson Vuyo Mhaga says: “The minister is visiting to ensure that police officers are visible and maintaining control while other parties negotiate with community members.”
