CAPE TOWN – Ocean View residents are rallying together following a spate of crime, including the rape and murder of a 14-year old girl.
Cameron Britz was killed last weekend allegedly by her cousin who appeared in the Simon’s Town Magistrates Court this week.
Following a series of meetings aimed at addressing a rise in crime, which residents say has claimed the lives of 13 people this year, locals decided to form a human chain through Ocean View to highlight the issues.
Saturday’s human chain is expected to run through several parts of the neighbourhood.
Community organiser Sharon Daniels says residents want to contribute towards fixing the situation.
“Friday was the beginning of us coming together even though we’re afraid. And everybody is screaming out that they have to find a solution and this is the beginning. When we left after that meeting most of us were at peace because we all felt the gathering was something different.”
