CAPE TOWN – Violent protests in Joe Slovo Park have cost the city and ratepayers at least R2 million.
On Sunday, protesters torched a MyCiti bus and stoned a number of others.
A clinic and community hall were also set alight earlier this week.
The City of Cape Town’s JP Smith says: “There have been no further flare-ups of violence.
“We’re looking at the repairs to the damage but unfortunately the timing of it and the extent of the damage means that there would have to be major repairs and that budget isn’t readily available and this could take extremely long for those repairs to be done.”
