CAPE TOWN A teenager from Lavender Hill appeared in Wynberg Magistrate’s Court for possession of a firearm and ammunition last Wednesday.
The 18-year-old from Ashley Crescent was caught in possession of a Tauris 9mm pistol, one magazine and 15 9mm rounds of ammunition.
Steenberg police spokesperson Warrant Officer John Bartlett says Steenberg police officers were busy with crime prevention patrols in Stone Court at about 09:15 when he was arrested.
“The serial number of the firearm was filed off. We are requesting anyone with information to come forward and help us,” he says.
In a separate incident, six people were arrested the same day for illegal possession of ammunition. Bartlett says at noon officers of Operation Combat were busy with patrols in Lavender Hill when they saw a man standing in front of a house in Stone Court.
“The suspect started to run on seeing the police vehicle. He ran into a house and the officers followed him and found him with five other men inside. They searched the house and found a black box with 43 9mm live rounds of ammunition. Six suspects between the ages of 18 and 24 were arrested for the illegal possession of ammunition. The suspects appeared in Wynberg Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday.”
