CAPE TOWN – A Swellendam community is this evening occupying a piece of land, in protest of a lack of housing in the Suurbrak area.

About 10 shacks have been erected on a piece of land in the main road in Suurbrak today.

Residents say they’re fed up with the lack of services being rendered to the poor.

Community leader Reinette Heunis said: “It’s just the momentum that we want to start here so the municipality must see what we as the community feel. It’s 20 years [on] and still no houses, so the community is fed up.”
