CAPE TOWN ANNUAL CHEESE FESTIVAL TO CREATE BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES

The 16th annual Cheese Festival it’s one of the highlights on the Cape culinary calendar with over 400 cheeses to sample.

CAPE TOWN – Western Cape Department of Agriculture has partnered with Agri-Expo to host the 16th annual Cheese Festival at Sandringham in Stellenbosch. Sunday is the second day of the three-day festival.

Visitors have the opportunity to taste some of South Africa’s best cheeses and meet some of the best cheese makers in the country.

Agri-Expo operation manager, Breyton Milford says they’re expecting 30 000 people to attend the event.

He says the main objective of the South African Cheese festival is to create a market for the cheese makers, more especially the small cheese makers.

“It is the only platform where visitors and consumers can engage with the cheese makers and with the cheese industry.”

Ladysmith cheese marketing manager Cecil Hambridge says: “I think the dairy industry is a very tricky industry, cows give milk seven days a week. If I had a cow I would give milk five days a week and would be a millionaire but all that we do here is we sell and market the cheese but the quality goes back to the quality of milk.”

It’s one of the highlights on the Cape culinary calendar with over 400 cheeses to sample.

Thousands of people attend this festival each year but the 2017 festival definitely had another cheesy success.
