CAPE TOWN – At least two cars along Main Road in Muizenberg and St James have been set on fire.

The incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Residents of the sleepy seaside villages were woken at about 3am by the sound of bursting tyres as the vehicles burned out on the pavement as flames licked the night sky.

The two cars, about 75 metres apart, appear to have been deliberately targeted.

Residents of the area routinely leave their cars parked on the street due to a shortage of parking along the picturesque route.

Firefighters at the scene told EWN that the fires were “very weird”.
