CAPE TOWN – A former South African National Defence Force (SANDF) member has been arrested in connection with a Khayelitsha Military Base robbery.

The 40-year-old suspect was arrested in an intelligence-led operation in Harare, Khayelitsha earlier on Thursday.

A number of rifles and ammunition were taken during the incident last Friday.

It’s believed robbers overpowered guards at the gate of the 9 South African Infantry base in Khayelitsha on Good Friday.

The group allegedly held soldiers at the armoury guard room at gunpoint and forced them to open the safe.

Officials say the suspect is being questioned by investigators.
