CAPE TOWN – The City of Cape Town firefighters were attacked while responding to a blaze in Vrygrond over the weekend.

This is the second such incident in just over the week.

The city’s JP Smith says they fail to understand why the very people which they are trying to protect are attacking the rescue crews.

“In Vrygrond the residents were less than welcoming. And, again, for the second time this month they pelted firefighters with stones, damaging a fire truck. Earlier this month a fire truck was damaged and a firefighter was hit when an unruly crowd stoned our staff and vehicles attending to a fire.”
