CAPE TOWN – Former Oudtshoorn mayor Gordon April has been found guilty for stealing municipal sand and stones.
April and another municipal official, Raymond Wagenaar, were convicted in the Oudtshoorn Magistrates Court this week.
In 2011 the African National Congress councilor ordered that municipal workers deliver sand and stones to his home.
The case drew further controversy when it emerged April had used municipal funds for legal costs.
Local Government Committee chair Masizole Mnqasela made the announcement during a Provincial Legislature sitting on Thursday.
“Former ANC mayor Gordon April and municipal employee Raymond Wagenaar were both found guilty in the Oudtshoorn court for abusing municipal resources and the list goes on.”
